Caught Dirty Beaches last night at Urban Lounge in SLC. Mic stands were kicked over, guitars straps were worn as blindfolds, and finished drinks were chucked at the crowd. It was a rowdy ten songs, with a Rev to assist Alex Zhang Hungtai's Vega. At one point he looked my direction and yelled, "YOU CAN'T FUCKING CATCH ME, MOTHERFUCKAA! I'M TOO FAAAAST!" I did catch him outside, though. He let me know that--in addition to 2(!) new LPs--he's working on scoring a few films, and that film tends to be his main influence (great article on that).
He remains my favorite Taiwanese-Canadian surfabilly Elvis/Chris Isaac/Alan Vega.
